After 3 years of non-stop travelling backwards and forwards; living out of a suitcase, never feeling like I had a home; I have returned to my hometown.
I have made some good connections, worked with some fabulous people and made some wonderful friends, it has been a fantastic experience, which has really helped me to grow as an artist. But, now it is time to move onwards and upwards (maybe a little backwards). I am ready for the challenge......BRING IT ON!
Is this a smart career move? Only time will tell! The market in my hometown is virtually non-existent, definitely no market for the rates that I am used to getting. I knew that before I left and I know it now, but it isn't my intention to work here, just live here.
There are some good points; I am only 30 minutes further from Sydney than I was before, which is where most of my commercial work takes place anyway. People get married everywhere, so I am fairly confident that I will be just as successful throughout the Blue Mountains/Nepean regions as I was throughout the Hunter/Newcastle regions. Networking doesn't frighten me anymore. I am surrounded by friends and family. Less time travelling = More time working = Winning!
You can be sure of one thing, I will be working my butt off to make it happen (which is a good thing, as I was gaining a little extra winter padding).
